Terms of Service
Effective date: March 21, 2026 · Last updated: March 21, 2026 · Questions: hello@ambryapp.io
1. Acceptance of terms
By downloading, installing, or using the Ambry application (“Service”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service (“Terms”). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the Service.
These Terms apply to all users of the Service, including visitors, registered users, and others who access the Service.
2. Description of service
Ambry is a privacy-first cloud storage application that enables you to encrypt files on your device and store them in your own connected Google Drive accounts. The Service provides:
- On-device end-to-end encryption of your files, file names, and metadata
- Routing of encrypted data between your device and your Google Drive accounts
- 100 MB of Ambry-provided storage at no cost
- The ability to connect multiple Google accounts as additional storage
3. Accounts & registration
You must create an account to use Ambry. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account password. Your password is the root of your encryption system — it is never transmitted to our servers and cannot be recovered if lost.
You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to notify us promptly of any unauthorised use at hello@ambryapp.io.
Important: If you forget your password, your encrypted files cannot be recovered. There is no password reset mechanism because we do not hold your encryption keys. Please store your password securely, such as in a password manager.
4. Google Drive integration
Ambry integrates with Google Drive via the Google API Services. By connecting a Google account you:
- Authorise Ambry to create, read, update, and delete files in your Google Drive that were created by Ambry (using the
drive.filescope) - Acknowledge that files stored in your Google Drive are subject to Google’s Terms of Service
- Agree that Ambry is not responsible for any data loss resulting from changes to Google’s services or your Google account status
You can disconnect any Google account from within the app or via your Google Account settings at any time.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Service to:
- Store, transmit, or distribute content that is unlawful, harmful, abusive, or infringing
- Attempt to gain unauthorised access to our systems or another user’s account
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity or performance of the Service
- Use the Service for any illegal purpose or in violation of any applicable law
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble any part of the Service
- Use automated tools to access the Service in a manner that exceeds reasonable personal use
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
6. Your content & data
You retain full ownership of all files and content you store through Ambry. By using the Service, you grant Ambry a limited, non-exclusive licence to route, store (in encrypted form), and transmit your content solely as necessary to provide the Service.
Because your content is end-to-end encrypted, Ambry cannot access, view, or use your content for any purpose other than transmission and storage.
You are solely responsible for the content you store using Ambry and for ensuring you have the right to store and share that content.
7. Free storage & limits
Ambry provides 100 MB of free storage. Additional storage is provided by connecting your own Google Drive accounts, which are subject to Google’s own storage limits and terms.
We reserve the right to modify storage allocations with reasonable notice to users. We will notify you via the app or email before making any changes that affect your existing data.
8. Availability & modifications
We strive to keep the Service available at all times but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.
We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time, with reasonable notice where possible.
9. Disclaimers
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
We do not warrant that the Service will be error-free, secure, or continuously available. You use the Service at your own risk.
Data loss disclaimer: While we take every reasonable precaution, we are not responsible for data loss resulting from forgotten passwords (which cannot be recovered), disconnected Google accounts, Google account deletion, or device loss. We strongly recommend maintaining backups of important data.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Ambry and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including loss of data, loss of profits, or loss of goodwill — arising from your use of or inability to use the Service.
Our total liability to you for any claim arising from these Terms or the Service shall not exceed the greater of (a) the amount you paid us in the past 12 months or (b) $10 USD.
11. Termination
You may delete your account at any time from within the app. Upon deletion, your server-side account data will be removed within 30 days. Encrypted files stored in your Google Drive remain there and are not deleted by Ambry — you must delete them manually if desired.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, with or without notice depending on the severity of the violation.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation first. If unresolved, disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration or the courts of competent jurisdiction.
13. Changes to terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes via the app or email at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
